My freshman year at Lamar University I would always see students wearing red blazers to certain events. This attracted me and caused me to desire to be just like them. I started to do my research and found out that they were Ambassadors for Lamar University. That was definitely something I wanted to do. I wanted to prestigiously represent my school alongside my peer students from other majors. I was interested in following the journey of my peers while forming connections with alumni. I knew that with all that is required of Ambassadors I would learn how to communicate efficiently and over all better myself for the future. With that being said, I applied to become an Ambassador. The application process was a very long process that included personal statements, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and more.

      In my initial application I qualified for an interview. This was the scariest and nerve wracking interview, but I know  it prepared me for the future. In the interview I sat on one side by myself while their were 9 people interviewing me. The interviewers each asked 2 questions and I found this to be  extremely terrifying. 

      Unfortunately, I did not get accepted to be an Ambassador for my sophomore year. Despite not being accepted, I continued to expand my horizons and attempt to achieve membership in this competitive organization with more than 50 applicants applying each year. Not to mention, I  was blessed when the Director of the Ambassadors program emailed the Student Engagement Coordinator my resume. The very next day the Student Engagement Coordinator reached out to provide me with opportunities to get involved in on campus.

          After a year of increasing my involvement and getting familiar with Lamar’s campus, I applied to the Ambassadors program for the second time. This time when I received an interview, I was selected for the 2019-2020 school year to be an Ambassador for Lamar University. This was extremely exciting and provided me with the opportunity to constantly learn and experience new things. I am so blessed to be able to (finally) be a Lamar University Ambassador.
