JUNIOR YEAR

Fall 2019

I attended a football game on August 29, 2019 to provide myself with another opportunity to relax alongside my peers after persistent studying.

I attended Keith Carter's 50 year anniversary showing for his painting/visuals on October 25, 2019. Keith Carter was an artist from Beaumont who achieved fame from his work. This show was held at Lamar's Dishman Art Museum.

After attending other theatre shows in the past I felt a burning desire to learn more. I was present with the opportunity to attend the Permanent Collection Theatre show on November 8, 2019. I was not disappointed and excited to find my creative desire was fulfilled.

AMBASSADOR JUNIOR YEAR

Through out my tenure as a Lamar Ambassador I attended many events. Some of the events I attended my junior year was a Lamar football game in the Presidents Suite and when I attended the Class of 1950's reunion. In the suite, I mingled and networked along side numerous alumni and important people in the community and university. The next important event was attending Lamar's class of 1950's college reunion, this provided me with the opportunity to get an insight of university's demographics and operations. I was shocked to find that only one black person graduated in this class, yet these alumni were extremely respectful of me as a person.  As an Ambassador I am obligated to attend meetings with the other Ambassadors. These continuous meetings allowed me to deepen my connection with my peers and really get an idea of the program.

The Big Event Executive Board had an outing at Painting with a Twist on  November 17. This was a fun experience that put me in touch with my NEW Big Event Executive Board.

I attended the HASBSEB conference where I presented a powerpoint presentation on Afro Hispanic Literature: An Analysis of Two Poems by Tato Laveria.  I analyzed the meaning that Tato meant to convey to the audience. This was a challenging due to the Honors course requirements. I met with a professor on campus to help me understand and provide further analysis of the poems. I pushed myself all throughout the course that was taught by Dr. Castillon who helped me learned and increased my interests in the class topics.

I attended a Cardinal Conversation on September 26th. This conversation discussed how minority teachers and students on campus undergo different experiences than others. The talk was titled Intersectionality: Race, Gender, & Deafness. I realized I related to the conversations that were discussed in more ways than I thought.

Spring 2020

The Ambassador Events I attended this semester were with John Dickerson and a "Dinner and Conversation at the Nursing Table". John Dickerson provided an enriching conversation that helped grow and increase my interest in his books which I received for free. At the "Dinner and Conversation at the Nursing Table" a practicing nurse who is active in the field came and spread her knowledge with me and fellow nursing students.

The Big Event Retreat/Conference on  Jan 20, 2020 was an opportunity to connect with incoming members who would be working on the Big Event. Not only were we able to accomplish planning out the semester up until the day of the Big Event, but we made dog toys and had lots of fun too!

On February 21, 2020 Dr. Samuel Ivy visited Lamar University where I held a conversation with him regarding men and women of color. We discussed the demographic of Lamar's teacher to student ratio where there is a majority of minority race students, yet this is not reflected amongst the faculty. Dr. Ivy provided resolutions on how change might be enacted.

I attended a basketball game on February 26, 2020 to have a little fun!

I held conversation with Ms. Kristen Reynolds on March 10, 2020 who helped enrich me and connect with my experience as a Black Honor student. Ms. Kristen Reynolds was a black ambassador who was an honors graduate from Lamar University.  This talked enlivened me to continue my journey to become the FIRST black honors graduate my family knows.
